About Milesbreed

An engineering firm, built for the long run.

Enterprise software and distributed-ledger platforms, designed by the same architects and held to the same standard.

Our story

Why Milesbreed exists.

Milesbreed exists because too much enterprise software is delivered without the parts that make it last: written design decisions, real test evidence, runbooks and a support plan someone actually agreed to. We set up the firm to do those parts properly, as standard, on every engagement, whatever its size.

As our clients began exploring blockchain and tokenization, we saw the same gaps at a larger scale. Promising ideas were being built as isolated pilots, disconnected from the identity, ERP and data systems they depended on, and sometimes for problems a database would have solved.

So we built a ledger practice on the same discipline. Conventional systems and distributed ledgers are designed by the same architects, held to the same standards and integrated with each other properly. Clients get one firm that can tell them honestly which tool fits the problem, and then build it to last.

Engineering principles

Six principles we hold ourselves to.

They shape how we estimate, what we write down and what we hand over. Clients hold us to them too.

  1. 01

    Decisions before code

We write down the options, the trade-offs and the reason for each choice, so the next engineer understands the system without having to guess.

  2. 02

    The right tool, in writing

If a database serves better than a blockchain, or a library better than a platform, we say so and put it in the recommendation.

  3. 03

    Tested means evidenced

Every release ships with test results you can read. Smart contracts also go through fuzzing and an independent external audit before production.

  4. 04

    Built to be operated

Observability, runbooks and on-call procedures are designed alongside features. A system nobody can run at 3 a.m. is not finished.

  5. 05

    Integrate, don’t isolate

New platforms, ledgers included, must work inside the identity, data and ERP systems a client already runs, not beside them.

  6. 06

    Leave clients independent

We hand over code, documents and knowledge so your team can run and change the system without us. Support is a choice, not a dependency.

Leadership

The people accountable for your engagement.

Every engagement has a named technical lead and a delivery lead. These are the people they answer to.

Portrait of Miriam Kessler

Miriam Kessler

Managing Director

Miriam leads Milesbreed’s client relationships and commercial direction. She spent more than a decade in delivery leadership at a global systems integrator, running multi-year programs for banks and insurers, then headed engineering for the payments division of a Tier-1 bank. She holds the firm to a simple standard: senior engineers, trade-offs in writing, and contracts that include the unglamorous parts of delivery.

Daniel Hartmann

Chief Technology Officer

Daniel is responsible for Milesbreed’s engineering standards and the architecture dossier every engagement begins with. He previously led platform architecture at a global logistics operator, including the phased replacement of a mainframe order-management system, and was a principal engineer at an enterprise software vendor. He favors systems that are uneventful to operate: observable, well tested and documented for the people who inherit them.

Head of Blockchain & DLT

Tobi leads the blockchain and distributed-ledger practice. He started in post-trade technology at a Tier-1 bank, spent several years on permissioned-ledger programs at a financial market infrastructure provider, and later led engineering at a digital-asset custody firm. That mix shapes the practice: start from the business problem, document the trust model, and recommend a database when it is the better answer.

Head of Delivery

Clara owns how Milesbreed plans, runs and hands over its engagements. She previously ran a portfolio of digital programs at a national health insurer and led delivery of public-sector platforms at a government digital agency, several with fixed regulatory deadlines. She is responsible for estimation, delivery governance and the support model — and for making sure every handover arrives with a test plan and a runbook.

Careers

Do the work properly. We make time for it.

We hire engineers who would rather write down a trade-off than argue about it later. You will work on multi-month engagements for enterprise clients and funded startups, across conventional systems and distributed ledgers, with the time and support to do the work properly.

Get in touch.

Whether you have a live project or an early idea, a senior engineer will read your note and reply within one business day.
